BASIC SAFETY DURING PERMANENT WAY WORKS

To provide delegates with the underpinning knowledge in dealing with risks arising from contingencies within the railway

CONTROLLER OF SITE SAFETY (COSS)

This Course is to ensure delegates correctly interpret the knowledge and training to understand the different types of safe systems of work available, and selecting the correct protection procedures whilst working on or near the line. To train staff to correctly determine their responsibilities and duties when acting as Controller of site safety (COSS ) when setting up a safe system of work on or near the line.

CORE PLANNER 1

This course ensures delegates understand where and how to obtain information for assisting with the set up of planning safe systems of work prior to any work being carried out on the Network Rail Infrastructure.

CORE PLANNER 2

To provide sufficient understanding of the basic components and practice of railway engineering for the planning of the safe engineering access and safe systems of work on or about Network Rail Infrastructure.

ENGINEERING SUPIVISOR (ES)

This course is to ensure delegates understand the roles and responsibilities when acting as an Engineering supervisor, how to set up worksites, monitoring working practices within worksites, and the monitoring of train movements.

FIRE AWARENESS

Designed so all staff have a basic knowledge of health and safety practices in the work place and at home when dealing with different types of fire.

HANDSIGNALLER (H/S)

This course is to ensure delegates understand the different situations in which Handsignallers are appointed, and why Handsignallers are necessary.

INDIVIDUAL WORKING ALONE (IWA)

This course is to ensure delegates correctly interpret the knowledge and training to understand the different types of safe systems of work available, and selecting the correct protection procedures whilst working on or near the line on their own or with a small group.

LEVEL CROSSING ATTENDANT (LXA)

This course is to ensure delegates understand the roles and responsibilities when acting as a Level Crossing Attendant in fault or maintenance situations and to identify the different types of crossings and their usages.

LOOKOUT/SITE WARDEN (LKT)

This course is to ensure delegates correctly interpret the knowledge and training to understand the different types of safe systems of work defined by the COSS and to ensure that they give the correct warnings to protect the group whilst working on or near the line.

MANAGEMENT OF DEFECTIVE AND BROKEN RAILS

To provide delegates with the underpinning knowledge of how to deal with a broken rail.

MANUAL HANDLING

Designed for all staff to carry out their duties on track and in everyday situations without putting their health at risk from wrongful posture when lifting, pushing, pulling different items of equipment.

PASSING TRAINS OVER BROKEN OR DAMAGED RAIL

To provide delegates with the underpinning knowledge of how to deal with a broken rail

PEE-WEE (P) KANGO WARNING DEVICE

Additional bolt on courses to the Lookout course designed to train candidates in the use of warning devices.

PERSONAL TRACK SAFETY (PTS)

This course is to ensure delegates correctly interpret the knowledge and skills required to walk / work on Network Rails’ Infrastructure. This course will help delegates understand the potential dangers whilst on or near the line, and enable them to follow a safe system of work.

PLAIN LINE MAINTENANCE

To provide delegates with the required knowledge and skills necessary to inspect and maintain plain line track to the required Network Rail Standards

POINTS OPERATOR (PO)

This course is to ensure delegates understand the roles and responsibilities when acting as a Points Operator in fault or maintenance situations

SCISSOR LIFT/SELF PROPELLED BOOM CONTROL

Designed to ensure candidates operate Scissor Lifts and Self Propelled Boom Controls safely and  within health and safety guide lines

TRACK GEOMETRY 1

To provide delegates with a detailed understanding of requirements and techniques to manually repair track geometry faults

TRACK INDUCTION COURSE (TIC)

This course is to ensure delegates correctly demonstrate understanding of permanent way terms and procedures. The course enables candidates to have an understanding of tools and their usages in the correct manner.

TRACK MAINTENANCE SWITCHES AND CROSSING

To provide delegates with the required knowledge and skills necessary to meet the Track Maintenance requirements and engineering tolerances associated with switches and crossings. Component repair methods, techniques.

TRACK PATROLLING

To provide delegates with the underpinning knowledge of track inspection requirements, methods and techniques.

TRACK RENEWAL

To provide delegates with the required knowledge and skills of renewal methods and techniques used on Plan Line and in Switches and Crossings

TRAINING - CCNSG

Vital has the in-house capability to provide CCNSG training course for basic site safety. The CCNSG National Course is valid for three years from the date of the course.

TRAINING - HVAC ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Vital is always looking for ways to improve the services for our clients.  Our experienced Bristol office already had a Training Division offering IPAF Scissor Lift, Boom and Harness training (which now also includes Incident & Injury Free training) so it was natural to invest in our staff and clients by having Scott Crump trained and Authorised by the HVCA to deliver the BESCA Self Certification Course.

Vital, has been an Affiliate Member and Accredited Trainer since 2000.  In late 2006 the HVCA invited Vital to take on and provide training in association with BESCA for both HVCA members & non members.  Thus enabling the trained staff to self certificate their installation work in line with Part L of the regulations towards energy efficiency.

The (http://www.besca.org.uk/) is of particular significance to the heating and ventilation sector, as it allows those trained to self certify and inspect on a range of issues surrounding energy efficiency and fuel conservation under Part L of the regulations.

Training - IPAF Boom Lift

Extremely versatile and one of the most popular machines in the industry today, the Boom Lift can reach up and over obstacles into inaccessible places (e.g. over walls for high level installation/maintenance and repair work) and is extremely manoeuvrable.

Training - Scissor Lift

Housing a large working platform cage that allows for a greater lift capacity.  Some models are suited to narrow access, others have extending working platforms and four wheel drive. All types of power can be specified including diesel, bi-fuel and electric.
